KTFO won its unprecedented 4th consecutive I Shoe fantasy baseball championship by beating Clarence. It was KTFO's narrowest victory, as the series ended in a 5-5 tie, and Anthony beat Clarence on the tie-breaker which was based upon regular season record.
After posting strong pitching stats in the opening days, Clarence
decided to bench his starting pitchers (thereby basically winning ERA
and WHIP but conceding wins and Ks) and focused on offense and saves.
The strategy almost worked...
Clarence had a team ERA of
0.87, a WHIP of 0.65, and 8 saves, and won all 3 categories. However,
he only won 2 out of the remaining 7 categories (HRs- 13 to 12, and
RBIs- 46-41).
Anthony won the remaining categories,
blowing Clarence out in Ks (91-26) and winning the other categories by
relatively close margins. Championship series MVP Carlos Gomez led KTFO in both HRs (3) and SBs
(2) and also had an OPS of 1.129, and was the critical force behind AK winning runs, SBs and OPS. KTFO 2B Aaron Hill was the only player to finish in double-digit
runs (10). Hill also had 2 HRs and 7 RBIs.
Lance Lynn
was the leader of AK's staff, recording 2 wins and 18 Ks. Sergio Romo
added 2 saves and 4 Ks with an ERA of 0.00 and a WHIP of 0.33.
Matt
Kemp led team Clarence in runs (7), HRs (4), RBIs (9) and OPS (1.143).
Grant Balfour had 4 saves and 10 Ks while registering an ERA and WHIP
of 0.00.
In terms of goats, KTFO SP Ryan Dempster had the highest ERA and WHIP in the series (9.35/2.08), and Manny Machado (SS on team Clarence) had the lowest OPS in the series, at .307.
The series may have turned on OPS, as KTFO closely edged out Clarence .808 to .779.
Clarence and Anthony played in the finals last year, and Anthony won 6-4.
Emeson beat Ginsburg 5-4 to win the 3rd place game. Emeson got great production from Corey Hart (3 HRs), Jose Reyes (4 SBs) and R.A. Dickey (21 Ks). For team Ginsburg, Prince Fielder socked 3 dongs and Brandon Morrow had 2 wins, 14 Ks and a 0.60 ERA.
