"Lost" 2002 International Shoe Series 2 Cards Discovered at Garage Sale!

Cape Girardeau, MO- Baseball card collector Rick Y. "Ricky" Gelboim knows his sports cards. For the last decade Gelboim has spent nearly every weekend attending trade shows, visiting card shops, or traveling to garage sales and flea markets across the country.

Gelboim struck hobby gold this past weekend when attending a garage sale in Cape Giaradeau at the residence of 95-year old Dorothy "Dot" Weedaman. Mrs. Weedaman spent all of her personal finances aiding her husband, Harry Weedaman, who had suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the past 20 years. Harry Weedaman passed away last month, and Mrs. Weedaman was selling off all of her possessions to pay-off medical bills and the mortgage on her home.

Gelboim has been pursuing the "lost" cards in the International Shoe football set since 2002. The set was a hit with collectors when released in 2002 but rumors persisted that several cards did not make it into the final print run because they were destroyed in a fire started by Justin Mills, who had left a lit cigarette butt in the card factory. It is believed that the missing cards featured Mike Mano, Kyle Reeb, and Scott Wilson. The cards would sell for an excess of $2,500 each at auction if any could be located.

Gelboim found several versions of each of the missing cards in a shoe box at Weedaman's garage sale. Knowing that he had just found at least $15,000 in vintage cards, he showed the cards to Weedaman.
"How much for these cards you fucking bitch?" asked Gelboim.
"One dollar." replied Weedaman in a cheerful tone.
"I'll give you fifty cents you fucking whore." replied Gelboim.
"OK deal!" replied Weedaman.

Weedman's house was bulldozed by the bank several days after the sale, so it is unclear if she had any additional cards. When asked what he intended to do with the cards, Gelboim replied that they would be put up for auction and he would spend the proceeds on a hat made of gold that he would wear to future garage sales.

The Scott Wilson card features a rare image of Wilson outside of a hospital and attempting to interact with other people in the outside world.

After serving his sentence for assault and battery with a diaphram, Reeb joined the team at midseason and made several key long-snaps.

Mike Mano peed on the field after most International Shoe victories.
