Almost halfway through the regular season, it's worth looking at the early top-5 performers at the key positions, i.e. those who may seen significant salary increases in the offseason (all top-5 players either receive a salary increase of 10% or a salary equal to the 5th highest paid player at that position, as determined from the previous year's draft). Obviously, some players have had bye weeks and others have not, so this is a very early snapshot.
QB
1) Matt Schaub 148.20
2) Tom Brady 141.06
3) Ben Roethlisburger 135.78
4) Drew Brees 129.80
5) Peyton Manning 129.50
Weird note - these 5 QB's are owned by three teams. The Stompers have Schaub and Big Ben, Bafana has Brady and Manning, and the Manimals own Brees.
WR
1) Andre Johnson 81.20
2) Steve Smith 76.50
3) Randy Moss 73.60
4) Hines Ward 69.90
4) Reggie Wayne 69.90
WR's normally see the biggest jumps, and Johnson, Smith, and Ward would all be in line for big salary bumps. Marques Colston and Mario Manningham are just outside this group, and may also see big increases if they make the top 5.
RB
1) Maurice Jones-Drew 108.80
2) Adrian Peterson 108.30
3) Ray Rice 100.60
4) Chris Johnson 90.20
5) Ronnie Brown 87.54
MJD, Rice, and Johnson would all increase heavily if they ended up in the top-5. As with the QB's, the same 3 teams own all of these players (Manimals, Bafana, Stompers).
The 3 highest scoring teams in the league are also the 3 teams owning most of the top-5 players early on; we'll see if the trend continues.

There's no St. Louis players on the list, but that's ok cause St. Louis sucks this year, but we used to have the St. Louis Cardinals football team here and my uncle knew their quarterback Neil Lomax and he would have been top 5 back in like the 1980s when St. Louis won all of the sports and my uncle and Neil were friends and he used to come by the house with my cousin who worked at the stadium in the 1980s but now he's in real estate downtown which is slow, but he's really good at it but I have five cousins, Tom, Rich, Eric, Ron and Kara - she's really hot and we used to hook up when we were young - but Tom is the only one who is really good and his father who is my uncle and my dad's brother was originally in the real estate business in St. Louis way back before the courthouse that looks like an erect penis or any of that stuff when downtown was cool and my father was in restaurants so they both knew a bit about the city and would . . .
I used to tagteam white bitches all the time with Stump Mitchell. He was the finisher. We'd make videos and send them to Neil Lomax.
